Definitely a lazy Sunday!

Allo and Happy Sunday!

Up this morning about 7:30 am but still wishing I could sleep longer!  Oh well!  We decided that the first thing to do this morning was to put together yesterday’s blog … which is now done!  Then, we wanted to walk over across the bridge over the Saone River (which is the same one that floats gently by our apartment!) to the local farmer’s market.  It runs every day but Monday (tomorrow) so we thought we’d like to get dinner in place for tonight and hopefully tomorrow night!  So … out into a misty kind of day!

Going grocery shopping!  Note shoes!

The market was truly, truly wonderful!   And, it is definitely larger than we remember it!  It now follows along two entire blocks along the Saone – and there is everything food-wise – multiple fish shops, flower shops, two different places for the wonderful roasted French chicken, bakeries, cheese mongers, vegetable and fruit stands – we even found a fabulous place to buy a freshly squeezed (while we watched!) orange juice stand!

The only bad thing is that is gotten R thinking once again about buying an industrial-sized juicing machine for our house – see the photo!

Beautiful Saone River

Filled our push cart with all sorts of wonderful things – radishes, to start with, haricots verts – everything to make a wonderful chicken dinner this late afternoon!  And of course, we also got croissants and pain au chocolats for breakfast this morning – we needed something to go with the orange juice!  Took everything back to the flat, and had a belated but delicious breakfast.

The flowers were gorgeous!

Also, before we left, I did two loads of laundry on Clothilde’s new washing machine!

As I wanted a cold wash, there was a quick-cold choice – washing your clothes in 30 minutes as opposed to 1 h 28 m – I thought it was at least worth a try!  And it’s great!  We now have clothing scattered hither and yon throughout the flat, but things seem to be drying fairly quickly – clean clothes for tomorrow!  YEAH!  At some point I am going to try the long wash and the drying cycle … as I mentioned earlier, I have never been successful with a combination wash/dry machine, but I’m willing to try it again!

All sorts of goodies!

After breakfast, we decided to have a bit of a sit-down before we went back to the grocery store with our list.  Basically, it was paper products:  TP, paper towels, Kleenex, but also jam for my pain au chocolat (had to do without this morning!) toothpaste, salt and pepper.  The list goes on.  I am truly thankful that Clothilde has a shopping cart, which makes thing SO much easier!

Oh, and a Debbie Hall request:  Photos of shoes – what the well-dressed French women are wearing.  Debbie was the one who suggested I try Skechers for comfy walking shoes!  And she was RIGHT!  Thank you, Debbie!  Oh!  Additionally, we actually saw an entire Skechers STORE in Paris!  And white tennies on women seem to be the ticket, as are various other colors – but all in the tennis shoe or casual shoe style.  Just incredible!  Guess this is just what happens when children are left unattended in their very comfortable tennis shoes!

Fabulous chicken and potatoes!  Yum!

There is also a craft/art market directly across from our apartment on Sunday mornings.  We walked through, but the only thing that I REALLY like were some wire trees that stood on a table and looked very much like bonsai.  The one I liked best was only 3,800€ … so we left it standing.

A man and his machine!

And, for the very first time in Lyon, I went into the lovely gelato shop that lies directly below our windows.  My waffle come with two scoops of Stracciatella was 4.90€ – and it was GREAT!  Hopefully this won’t become a habit…no one needs that many calories!

In the flat now, food safely stored, soccer on the television set and both of fully showered.  I’m thinking of a nap, and then a late-ish lunch/early dinner…

So!  More later

Our first breakfast in Lyon!

I took a walk through Vieux Lyon – and let me tell you, those cobblestones do NOT get any easier to walk on!

Yummy gelato!

Walked through town with a stop at Saint Jean, the original cathedral at the foot of the hill.  Fourviere is the cathedral on the top of the hill – we will get up there in the next few days, as soon as our transport passes are good to go – wonderful funiculaire to both the roman museum as well as the church.

Other than that, R is reading his book, and I am in the process of ironing, as most of the clothes are dry at last!  (Although not sure if R’s cotton socks will ever dry out!) So!  Clean clothes tomorrow!  Yeah!!

R carving chicken!

‘Til then!
